The lawyers have checked the box for consular processing in my I-140 application. I asked them and they said it is no big deal, the can easily switch to AOS if needed. I did read about CP and AOS but my question is what can be my lawyers reason to select CP?

Depending on the Consulate that you would be dealing with vs. the USCIS Office, it may be the lesser of two evils (a shorter processing timeframe).
