My husband and I met online, specifically on the Playstation Network in August, 2009. My husband came to Canada on November and in December. My first visit to the States was in February 2010 and. I have visited several times since. We got married in March, 2010. What I am looking for is some help figuring out all my options, step by step in getting my Green Card. I know I need to start with the I-130 and the $420 filing fee. How long will everything taste from the first to last step and what will the approximate cost be all together? Is there anyway for my fees to be waived or is there a program that can help us? We are surviving every month, but barley. Thanks in advance for everyones help!!!
Have you returned to Canada or have you stayed on in the U.S.? It makes a difference in how to proceed.
The Immigration based on a family member requires a showing that the intending immigrant will not become a "public charge" and that is accopmplished by the sponsor/petitioner filing an I-864, Affidavit of Support and showing sufficient income. A sponsor can get helpers to share the burden if needed and they are willing. No fee waiver is available for such a case.
Start at www.uscis.gov and explore the steps required.
Are you inside or outside the US? If inside, do you still have valid immigration status? If outside, did you overstay in the US before leaving? Are you a Canadian citizen? Is your husband a US citizen?
Your answers to these questions will affect your available options.
