I have a friend who is in a situation where i could not answer his question. May be some one here will be able to answer this. His mother petitioned for him when he was unmarried under 21, hes 32 now. He received notification from NVC and US embassy for further processing last year just when he gave up and decided to get married. So he decided to wait and postpone his wedding further. He got his approval in January and has 6 months to enter US. Now his girlfriend waited long enough and her parents are running out of patience. The GFs parents doesnt want him to leave before he ties the knot. And he is worried they will not wait for him if he leaves before getting married.
Heres the question:
Will there be any issue if he gets married before traveling to US?
Or should he travel to US, go back after he gets his green card on hand and get married. This will cost him quite a bit for traveling.
I appreciate your input.
I have a friend who was in a similar situation. She said they dont check overseas to see if one is married. Can anyone confirm this?

If the marriage is public record in the given country, like they are in the US, the consulate might find out.
But if they dont find out at that stage, theyll probably find out later, especially if one spouse tries to sponsor the other.

The effect of his marriage depends on the particulars of his situation. It might screw things up entirely, or his wife may even be able to join him.
Is he from the Philippines or Mexico? Is his mother a US citizen?
