Hi,
My wife got her EAD. (applied with family based GC application). She has her old SSN from F-1 status.
1. To use EAD, should we apply for new SSN? will she get a new SSN number or something notation changes on the current ssn number.
2. Is EAD and her Indian passport sufficient documentation for applying for SSN.
3. SSN Application says we need to prove lawful status. Her F-1 is done. So, will EAD suffice for showing lawful status
4. ssn is required in our state for new drivers license. Is that the only reason people apply for ssn.
5. Are we applying for a "Original SSN Card" or "changing information on your social security record"
Experts, please help. Also, is there some place on this forum for reading peoples experiences on this topic?
I went from F-1, to H-1, to GC, to Citizen without changing my SSN once. Hence, all these dumb questions.
Thank You.

The main reason people apply for SSN is to work!

So does everybody else who got an SSN while in nonimmigrant status. Same SSN for life.
After obtaining the green card she can apply for a new Social Security card without the employment restriction wording on it, but the new unrestricted card would still have the same old SSN. Similarly, if she changes her name she should apply for a card with her new name, but the same old SSN will be on the new card.
