Question regarding GC interview

Hello

I have a question about GC. I got married in India when my husband had GC. I came to US on F1 (student visa) as a married status: SINGLE, because I was afraid that my F1 visa would be rejected if i had told that i m married to GC holder. After coming to US, we got married here to have a marriage certificate because we did not have a marriage certificate from india. Now my husband is a US citizen, n we have filed for my GC. Now, my question is:

If in GC interview, I am asked why did u hide the info that you were married when u applied for F1 visa, how do i handle it?

The truth is: I was afraid that my F1 visa would be rejected if i had told that i m married to GC holder. Can I give this true answer in the GC interview?

I would really appreciate any reply.
Thanks !!

Ruby

Rubyred, what you did is misrepresentation. Forget F-1, now you have jeopardized your GC as it is a reson for life time ban, which is gauranteed. If your spouse can apply for waiver you have a chance at GC, which given your senario is tough to get. Consult a attorney ASAP.
Now on your I-485 application where did you mention that you got married? If you metioned India. then you are doomed for sure. Anyways what you did is misrepresentation and the consequences are dire. Best of luck.

Your problem is that you concealed a material fact for an immigration benefit. They might not find out about the Indian marriage if theres no legal documentation, but they may ask when you met and unearth it this way.

If you havent mentioned or turned anything in about your marriage in India, then you are fine, otherwise they will fry you at the interview.
