I-864 Affidavit of support - assets outside of U.S.

Hi everyone,

I will appreciate any help with info about I-864: dont have enough income from my sponsor (U.S. citizen husband), the different between the powerty line and his income we can prove only in saving account (the account is on my husbands name and our toddler daughter name). Is saving account O.K??? I can prove at least 1 year of saving statements with the money on. Same websites says they dont like savings, since you can cash it anytime... Would be better to change it to money market account? Can my daughter name on the account together with my husband be a problem (she is 3 years old). There is exactly the amount which is the different between his taxes for last year and the line. He is self employed. I own condo (apartment) out of U.S., would this be helpful? If so, what I need (I own it for about 10 years, paid off already), should I get it appraised in USD or EURO is enough? thank you! We dont have any co-sponsor or anyone who can help.

Savings account is fine. Thats why they ask for the amount in your savings and checking accounts in question 26 of the I-864. USCIS actually prefers accounts like that which can be cashed easily. Just be prepared to produce another account statement at the interview to show the money is still there. His daughters name being on the account wont be a problem, unless the girls mother (who I presume is not you) can make withdrawals by showing up at the bank with the daughter.

Note that although the normal ratio is 5:1 for assets used to offset the income requirement, the calculation is different for a US citizen sponsoring a spouse. In your case each 3 dollars of assets offsets the income requirement by $1. Did you do the calculation based on 5:1, or 3:1?
