Hello i am on GC (since january 2009) and my fiance lives back home (syria) we are looking to get married next summer. what is the best way to bring her here?
i cant afford to wait 3 years for me to become a citizen
i read somewhere that the state department publishes visa numbers, can someone please explain those to me? it seems that she falls under category 2A?
"FAMILY-SPONSORED PREFERENCES
First: Unmarried Sons and Daughters of Citizens: 23,400 plus any numbers not required for fourth preference.
Second: Spouses and Children, and Unmarried Sons and Daughters of Permanent Residents: 114,200, plus the number (if any) by which the worldwide family preference level exceeds 226,000, and any unused first preference numbers:
"
so as per Nov 2010 bulletin,
category 2A has priority date of "2A 01JUN10 "
does this mean that for people who get married and filled their documents before June 2010 there paper work is now in the process?
what i am trying to get at, it used to be that Green card holders have to wait for years to sponsor their spouses, did this change? it seems that the priority dates number are somewhat encouraging?
or i am really stupid :-)
The F2A category used to have a 4-year backlog, now it is under 6 months. For November, the consulate is preparing to interview people in F2A whose I-130 were filed before this June.
So if this trend continues, your spouse can have a GC in 6-9 months.
Jack, people on this very same forum are reporting that even though they filed their petitions in 2008 in 2A category, they are not even being processed by NVC at this point, let alone preparing for their interviews at the consulates... Backlog for PDs may have been cleared/reduced drastically, but it doesnt mean that people who filed their petitions in June are getting interviewed next month. I actually havent read about a single person yet interviewing with that PD.
Nobody in June will be eligible for an interview next month, since the cutoff is June 1st and the PD must be *before* the cutoff to be eligible. Everybody who is interviewed at the consulate next month would have filed before June. How long before June is another question.
For October the cutoff is April 1, so only the people who filed in March or earlier would be eligible right now.
The PD movement has been so large that now the I-130 processing and NVC are the limiting factors.
