Hello All,
Ive been reading through the forums for quite a while, and going quite a few years back - I know this question gets asked over and over again, but to put my mind at ease, Im going to ask regarding our case anyway....
My wife is a citizen of the Slovak republic and entered the US on an L1B in Nov 07. We met online and started dating in Jan/Feb 09. I moved in with her in Sept 09, proposed in Nov 09, and we were married on May 28th 10 in her country (her father had a stroke last year and cant travel too well, so we had a small wedding with 30 family and friends, including both my parents and my step-father... small is good though, as the reception was approaching 16 hours long!), and again June 13th here in the US, with over 100 people in attendance, including both of our coworkers & friends, my family, and her sisters family who traveled here for the wedding and a two week holiday with us afterwards.
We filed the 130, 485, 131 & 765 in July of this year through our attorney. The 485 has a priority date of July 30th.
We received her interview letter on Oct 4th, for an interview Nov 4th. We havent gotten anything regarding her EAD or AP though, and our attorney says the interview might arrive before the 131 & 765 are finished anyway.
In preparing for the interview, this what I have to bring, and Im looking for some opinions on whether or not its enough:
- Original Slovak marriage license, with apostile & certified translation
- My wifes original Slovak birth certificate, with apostile & certified translation
- Certified copy of the Remarriage certificate from the US wedding
- Certified copy of my US birth certificate (with apostile ... had to get apostile on it to get Slovak marriage license, so we just got apostiles on everything we could in case we needed it, heh)
- Copies of both our drivers licenses, (though mine only has a sticker on the back with my address change... thats how they do it in Jersey until you renew.)
- Statements from the joint savings account we opened after the wedding
- Our lease agreement, in both our names dated November 2009
- Cancelled checks from my checking account for rent from November, 2009 - present
- Rental insurance policy in both our names
- Car insurance policy in both our names, showing she was added in April 2009
- Screen cap from my companys benefits department that shows her as the beneficiary for my company life insurance
- Contact sheets of photos (seemed easier than actually printing them out individually) showing us together on various trips and from both our weddings (we havent gotten the wedding albums yet, but weve got all the digital stuff)
- Airline itineraries showing trips to Amsterdam, Vienna/Slovakia (4 trips), Vegas (2 trips) & Los Angeles
- Airline itinerary for upcoming trip to Vienna/Slovakia for November 19th
- Itinerary/travel agent booking confirmation for the 3 week honeymoon were planning in New Zealand and Fiji for February
- Both of our 2009 individual tax returns that show filing from the same address
- Cable & utility bills in her name only at our current address
- Car payment & credit card bills, in my name only at our current address
- I have my cell phone records from the start of our relationship - now showing us calling/texting each other (hers are not available, my bill is in my companys name)
- Letter of employment from my employer
- My tax transcripts for the last 3 years
- Cards weve given each other during our relationship
- Some reciepts for gifts Ive sent her (kindle w/ gift message, ipod w/engraving, flowers with card messages)... I love online merchants ability to show everything youve ever done
- Cards from guests at both of our weddings
And thats about all Ive got, am sort of worried that we only have one joint savings account, and separate checking accounts, and that most of the bills are in her name alone, but honestly we just havent had the time to get around to merging our checking accounts and putting my name on the bills (which require visits to the utilities offices).... and I cant add her to my health insurance because of my companys policy that if she has it available through her employer, she has to carry it through her employer.
Maybe Im just stressing out about it too much, but Id rather be over prepared than under prepared.
I definitely appreciate any advice.
Cheers!
Underprepared? wow...
If you want it anymore believable the next step is to ask the Pope to come and vouch for you
you should be pretty ok with all that you have!
Everything seems ok and i hope you wont have any problems with the interview but yeah make sure on both of your IDs it should have the same address i read in the previous interview experience that the bride address was different on the ID from the address given on the i485. so make sure you both have the same address on ID. Also dont forget to take the pictures with you specially group photos and where ever you guys have went to honeymoon. pictures speak more than anything so best of luck.

Hmmm - hope thats not a problem for us. Weve moved since we got our Drivers licences. Illinois doesnt re-issue with the updated address, or even give you a sticker (but they update their database). My DL does show the current address because I got a motorcycle endorsement this year and got an updated DL.
Oh well -well find out next Thursday!
