Yes, LPRs can legally own guns.

But make sure to check your states and citys laws for any licensing and registration that may be applicable, and the laws that govern how and wear you can carry it (open carry, concealed carry, where it must be when in your car, etc.).

As an LPR, you can own a gun as long as the back ground check is clear.
Make sure you buy from a registered dealer. Do NOT buy a gun from local gun shows that might have weapons without serial numbers of that have altered serial numbers. These tend to be cheap but the saving might haunt you in the near future.
Ofcourse you dont want to buy a gun from a friend because its a good deal or something like that.

@Manalive.. great advice, gracias. As to why I need a gun well why did the founding fathers of this sweet great nation enact the Second Amendment ? I consider owning a large gun the patriotic duty of every law abiding LPR and USC! As long as you dont use it for evil purposes that harm others of course.
