My grandfather was born in USA (deceased), my father was for a time American resident (born outside the U.S.) but resigned to the residence. It is my understanding that at least a couple of times, after which he resigned, my father was invited back to be resident. (All my uncles and cousins are American residents)
The question is I want to apply for residency, Can I lose my tourist visa for trying?, I am a candidate for the GC? I have a 34 years and live in Mexico.
Regards,
AR
Citizenship is different from residence. I think you mean you want to apply for citizenship based on your grandfather? How long did your father and grandfather live in the US before you were born? Is your father living in the US now? If he is living in the US, is he a permanent resident, or a US citizen?
Jacklantern, thanks for reply.
My Grandfather, lived a average of 3 or 4 months per year in his house in Texas, most of this time was in the summers. My father never lived in U.S. and he had the residence for some time.
My father and I, we live in Mexico.

AR.
Sorry, you dont qualify for US citizenship. There was a 1994 law that had some provision for citizenship through a grandparent, but you turned 18 long ago so its too late for that.
Youll have to qualify using the usual process that almost everybody else follows ... have an eligible parent, spouse, child, or sibling in the US initiate the green card process for you, then you wait out the process for however many years it takes.
My grandfather was born in USA (deceased) I have copy of his passport
