Hi All, I hope someone can answer this question or point me to an existing thread if something like this has been discussed already.
I am currently a green card holder and recently passed the citizenship interview. I am scheduled for Citizenship oath ceremony on the 8th of June. My plan is to file for greencard for my would be wife as spouse of a US citizen. As we all know, the priority for spouses of Greencard holders is way different than for spouses of US citizens.
If I get married prior to the oath ceremony, wait the few days until I am sworn in as citizen and then file for the green card as a petition for spouse of US citizen, will that work?
Or will my petition be downgraded as a marriage to greencard holder because at the time of marriage I was still a green card holder?
You can marry before oath and file after as spouse of USC. What matters is status at time of filing.
Wait until after citizenship oath ceremony to get married?
