Background Check for US Citizen Petitioner

I was wondering if anyone knows what affect the U.S Citizen petitioners background has on the AOS application process. I would also like to know if a background check is done before the application is accepted? I know the biometrics are done after but is there a background check before as well and is there a background check done in the immigrants country?
BTW I am not in trouble but just trying to get an idea why the acceptance may be taking so long....are they possibly waiting for information from my country etc?

None, unless the petitioner has been convicted of crimes of violence.

Thank you!

USC and LPR petitioners filing I-130s for a spouse and child(ren) and a USC filing an I-129F for a fiancee (or spouse) and child(ren) do get a background check as required by the Adam Walsh Act. This is to prevent violent criminals and sex offenders and child molesters from victimizing an unsuspecting spouse/fiancee and children, especially stepchildren.
