Marrying to GC holder while in US on L1

I want to know what will be the steps and time lines for obtaining a GC if one gets married to a GC holder being in US with legal status on work permit.

How far is the GC holder from being eligible for citizenship? How much time is left on the L1?
Being in the US as a guest worker or visitor gives an applicant no advantage timewise over an applicant outside the US. Each must get at the end of the line and wait for a visa to become available. It is quite possible that a guest worker or visitor will be required to exit the US and wait abroad for their GC to be granted.
The L1 does provide somewhat of an advantage in that it allows immigrant intent, so the L1 holder can exit and reenter the US and file for adjustment of status without the fact of being married to a USC causing problems at the port of entry. And the L1 visa allows exiting and reentering the US while the AOS is pending, without needing Advance Parole.
