Filing for I751 - Shoud I hire a lawyer? How much does it cost? How long is the process is general?

Hi All,

My I751 is due in less than 3 months, so I figured its time to file. The lawyer that represented us when I applied for the conditional green card 2 years ago is asking for $1500. She did a really good job with us the 1st time, so Im hopeful shell do a good job this time too. But $1500 seems like a lot of money for I751 since we only paid $2500 for the conditional green card application which included her appearing with us for the interview. We are happily married, the standard kinda applicants, with no complication to our case. So I assume well just be filing one form plus some evidence and 2 recommendations from friends/family. Does $1500 seem a fair price?

Not trying to be cheap here, but just want to hear everyone elses opinion on whether yall hired a lawyer or not for this process? How much did you pay? Was it worth it? And how long the process is?

Thanks a bunch~

1500 is lot or not I am not sure but why pay even a single dollar all you have to do is fill up a form and add attachments of bills and any joint life after you got ur conditional green card a few photographs, tax return, few medical bills if any insurance statements and bank/credit card statements and electricity/phone bills and if you can get affidavits well and good .
If yours is a " normal marriage " 1500 not given to your lawyer is 1500 saved for family my 2 cents ..
If the US citizen spouse is willing to sign the I 751 and willing to come to interview if any what would the lawyer do anyway?? I am quite sure the interview cant be tougher than the initial interview which you passed.
I would suggest look for threads for I 751 interview and see if they asked anything out of ordinary and prepare for such questions.

Thanks for the response. Im also thinking the filing doesnt seem to be that complicated so maybe we can handle it ourselves. I called several other attorneys and looks like over 1K is the ongoing price in Texas. Anyhow, Ive decided to ask our attorney (the same one that handled the conditional PR case two years ago) some questions and hope that shell answer or consider giving us an hour or two of consultation. Other than that I guess Ill be relying on the forum to answer my petty questions~ Thanks
