Hi everyone,

I was wondering if someone could quickly tell me how I should go about getting a birth certificate from India (for green card application). Both my parents are deceased and I have no relatives living in the town of birth. Thanks

Where were you born? I believe that for all births after 1969, births needed to be registered. Check with the local authorities where you were born. If that doesnt apply, then you need to get at least two older relatives (siblings, uncles, aunts, whatever) who can swear of affidavits that you were born on such and such a date and know that as your date of birth. If that doesnt apply then you must swear out an affidavit outlining your difficulties in obtaining a birth certificate and the reason why it is unavailable.

I was born in Bombay but before 1969. I am trying to contact the hospital I was born in to see if they could send me a copy. Not sure I will succeed.
