Topic5 sponsor parent to America

sponsor parent to America

My wife and I are both US citizen.
My wife want to sponsor to bring her mom here to the US; however, my wife want me to be a co-sponsor because she does not have a lot of income.
My questions:
-how long will it take to bring my wifes mom here?
-If we go through a divorce, can I withdraw my co-sponsorship? If so, do I still have any responsibilies related to sponsorship paperwork which I signed before our divorce?
-If I dont want to be a co-signer, what is the income required for my wife to file the sponsorship paperwork?

Andy

-how long will it take to bring my wifes mom here? A couple of months.

If we go through a divorce, can I withdraw my co-sponsorship? If so, do I still have any responsibilies related to sponsorship paperwork which I signed before our divorce? Your sponsorship is in no way tied to your marriage. You are on the hook until your mother-in-law contributes to Social Security for 40 quarters, becomes a citizen, or dies.

If I dont want to be a co-signer, what is the income required for my wife to file the sponsorship paperwork? 125% of the poverty threshold for your size household.

As far as how much a sponsor needs, go to this USCIS.gov link and depending on how many people are in the household you will figure how much your wife needs.
