For those of you who are getting ready to file!!!

Here is a piece of useful information I found today in "Daily News" in Alan Wernicks immigration section. Hope it can help somebody.

CIS eases rule on tax returns for applicants
Immigration

"The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) now requires applicants for permanent residence to file only one years tax returns with a Form I-864 Affidavit of Support. Previously, the CIS required three years of tax turns. You now need submit only the tax return for the year immediately prior to the sponsors signing of the Form I-864. U.S. immigration law requires these affidavits in all family-based immigration cases.
Also, the CIS has clarified that where the law requires the affidavit of support, you must submit it simultaneously with the application for adjustment of status. Adjustment of status cases are those where the applicant is applying to interview for permanent residence in the U.S.
Under prior rules, sometimes you could file the affidavit at the time of the adjustment of status interview.
Filing your own copy of your tax return may not be sufficient. Its best if you file a document from the IRS confirming that you filed a return. You can get that document either by filing IRS form 4506T or by calling 1 (800) 829-8374.
Only one years tax return also is required for applicants applying for permanent residence abroad."

Thanks so much. This information is really helpful. I just got my GC and I wish that rule was in effect. My wife and I had to look though all our stuff for 3 years income tax returns

My Daughters I-824 is just approved and the notice says they informed about this case to Delhi Embassy how i know that Delhi got information.
